More mild days ahead, followed by a more winter-like pattern
More Mild Days Ahead
What a lovely day across the state of Nebraska! Saturday was a day filled with sunshine, and temperatures were able to rise into the lower-60s in many locations.
As of Saturday evening, some mid to high-level clouds have arrived in southeast Nebraska. I anticipate that many of these clouds should stick around overnight and into Sunday morning. We’re forecasting partly cloudy skies, with a low temperature near 20° on Monday morning.
Sunday will feature a mix of sun and clouds. We expect temperatures to be slightly cooler on Sunday afternoon with highs in the upper-40s in Lincoln. That said, those closer to the Tri-Cities have a better shot at exceeding the 50° mark while those east of Lincoln should be slightly cooler.
The mercury will climb once again on Monday, with highs reaching the upper-50s. Note that if we see a bit more sunshine on Monday, it is not impossible for some to see another 60° day.
A More Winter-Like Pattern Arrives
A cold front arrives on Monday evening that will usher a cooler air mass into the area for Tuesday. As it continues to move away from us, precipitation will develop along the front to our south and east.
The big question is how far precipitation develops behind the front on Tuesday night and Wednesday. If this front can remain close enough to southern Nebraska, Lincoln may be able to see some snow on Wednesday. Otherwise, we lose any hope of seeing snow next week.
I’m more inclined to think that there’s more going against a major snow event in southeast Nebraska. While snow is possible on Wednesday, we’ll have to fine-tune the forecast over the coming days. While we’re keeping the chance for some snow on Wednesday now, there is no guarantee that snow will remain in the forecast as new information comes in.
