LPD: Lincoln attorney suspected of stealing from disabled woman arrested

Authorities say a Lincoln attorney suspected of stealing thousands of dollars from a developmentally disabled woman has been arrested.

Lincoln police said 47-year-old Christine Vanderford, owner of Vanderford Law, was serving as the court-appointed guardian for the 33-year-old victim.

Investigators serving a search warrant at Vanderford’s law office reviewed electronic and financial evidence and determined she had stolen over $60,000 from the victim’s bank account, police said. Police said the transactions were not approved by a judge, as required by law.

Vanderford turned herself in Thursday morning, and was arrested for exploitation of a vulnerable adult and felony theft by deception.

Vanderford’s bond was set at $5,000 and is set to appear back in court on November 25th. If convicted, Vanderford could face up to 25 years in prison.
