Multiple cold fronts to pass; Near miss for large winter storm
A fantastic Monday with temperatures topping out in the upper 50°s and lower 60°s. I hope you got a chance to get out and enjoy it because colder air is on its way.
A cold front will pass through the region Monday night. Winds will shift out of the northwest overnight. Cold air is going to lag hundreds of miles behind the front, so temperatures will only drop to the upper 20°s to lower 30°s by Tuesday morning.
Cooler air will arrive for Tuesday. Highs will only be in the upper 30°s to lower 40°s. Clouds will quickly be on the increase through the morning, becoming overcast for the afternoon.
Another cold front will pass through the region by Tuesday evening. That will bring a colder shot of air to southeast Nebraska. Temperatures will drop to the single digits to lower teens Wednesday morning. Through the day temperatures will not rebound much. Highs will only be in the middle to upper teens.
MAJOR WINTER STORM FOR CENTRAL UNITED STATES
Eighteen states are under Winter Storm Warnings, Winter Storm Watches, and Winter Weather Advisories in anticipation of a major winter storm developing in the Texas panhandle.
Signifcant snow will fall from central Missouri through northern Ohio Tuesday through Friday. Some areas could receive over two feet of snow in northern Illinois and northern Indiana. Significant icing will also be possible from northern Arkansas and northeast along the Ohio River in to southern Ohio.
Around southeast Nebraska, will be just get a glancing blow from the storm. There will be a chance for a few snow showers late Tuesday night through Wednesday morning. At best Lincoln is looking at a dusting to a tenth or two of an inch of snow. Further south along the Kansas/Nebraska border an inch of snow will be possible.
