New Nebraska Homeowner Assistance Program
For those struggling because of the pandemic
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN)- Nebraska received $50 million from the first round of the American Rescue Plan Act funding to help families stay in their homes.
As of November, over 18,000 home loans were delinquent in the state of Nebraska.
There are income requirements households must meet, as well as be able to prove there was a loss of income or gain of expenses during the pandemic. These funds will be dispersed throughout the state to those who qualify until September 2025.
“Our program will provide assistance for past-due mortgage payments, past-due real estate taxes, homeowners or flood insurance, and homeowner association dues. In addition, the Nebraska program which we are calling NHAF may assist with resolving property title issues to ensure a homeowner has a marketable title to their property,” said Shannan Harner NIFA executive director.
Another area of assistance is for those homeowners who have paid off their mortgage but may be struggling to pay their property tax payments.
