Organization will build fitness centers at three Nebraska schools

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN-TV) — Three elementary or middle schools in Nebraska will get a state-of-the-art fitness center, according to a press release from Gov. Pete Ricketts.
The National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Councils has built fitness centers in 38 states through its DON’T QUIT! campaign, and this year, Nebraska is among four states on the list.
The fitness centers are paid for through public-private partnerships and do not rely on state dollars.
The foundation is accepting nominations for schools from Wednesday through March 16.

“I have witnessed firsthand the positive impact these fitness centers have on students and communities, said Jake Steinfeld, chairman of the foundation. “When you provide schools with the tools and inspiration, you’ll be amazed by the changes that take place. Not only are we seeing increased academic scores but we are also seeing self-esteem skyrocket.”
Ricketts thanked the campaign for bringing fitness centers with “top-notch equipment” to Nebraska.
“Helping students develop habits of regular exercise has long-range benefits for their health,” he said.
