Lied Center prepares for big March schedule
Some big names will be in Lincoln throughout the month.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Moving further into 2022, the Lied Center for Performing Arts has a jam-packed month ahead. It’s a prime example of what’s been going on for a while now at the Lied: big names, exciting performances, and a reason to get out of the house.
“While many theaters across the United States and the world shut down for a long, long time, the Lied Center helped lead the nation”, says Executive Director Bill Stephan. “We were the first major university performing arts center to reopen in 2020, and we’ve just been going all out in every type of music, theater, and dance.”
You actually don’t even need to wait for the calendar to turn to the next page. Closing out this week, Bernadette Peters makes her return to the Lied.
“I had a chance to see her live at the Lied Center when she was here before, about 10 years ago”, recalls Stephan. “She is just something else. I can’t wait to have her back.”
March begins with some dance. Stars of American Ballet spin by on March 5th, bringing some of the top dancers in the country to Lincoln. Just a few days later, from the 8th to the 10th, Riverdance makes its return to the Lied, but it’s a little different than you may remember, making some changes for their 25th anniversary.
If you love the music of the 60s, you’re in luck. On March 12th, the Beatles are back together in the form of tribute band The Fab Four. Starting March 25th, you can experience the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons with a three-night performance of Jersey Boys.
“If you’ve never seen Jersey Boys, it’s a really amazing story”, says Stephan. “His life story is movie-worthy, and it’s musical-worthy, and that’s part of the reason it’s such a hit. In addition to the great songs, he’s got an incredible life story. That’s what Jersey Boys is about.”
There’s something for just about everybody in this upcoming month, and it’s all happening at just the right time.
“Now as COVID-19 has diminished so much in the community, it’s the perfect time to come out to the theater and enjoy some great entertainment and enjoy life again”, Stephan says.
