UPDATE: Lincoln Fire & Rescue respond to fire in north Lincoln strip mall

Lincoln Fire and Rescue responded to a call of a structure fire at 1324 N. 66th, near 66th and Holdrege around 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

LFR says the fire started on the north side of the building, inside the building where My Silver Attic had previously been located.

They estimate a total damage amount of $250,000 to the building.

Channel 8 News spoke with the owners of My Silver Attic, and they have been moved out of the strip mall since May. The sign for their business had not yet been taken down. A new business had taken over the location and was planning to open on Tuesday.

Authorities were able to stop the fire from spreading to other businesses within the strip mall, and crews managed to put the fire out within an hour of arriving.

Battalion Chief Dave Engler says crews were able to save the other businesses from fire damage, as the building has no fire stops and one common attic. Had they not stopped the fire from spreading into the attic, Engler says the damage would have been ‘catastrophic.’

Everyone was safely evacuated from the building, and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. This is an ongoing story and we will have more details when they become available.
