Former caregiver accused of forging checks belonging to 85-year-old Lincoln woman

A Lincoln woman is accused of forging checks worth thousands of dollars that belonged to an 85-year-old woman she was caring for.

Court documents show 57-year-old Lori Hurlbert faces charges of felony forgery and abuse of a vulnerable or senior adult. As of Friday morning she had not been formally charged, but was scheduled to appear in court Oct. 25.

Lincoln police said between April and June of 2019 Hurlbert forged 33 checks totaling $14,375 from the woman.

A family member told Channel 8 Eyewitness News Hurlbert was a caregiver for the victim who has dementia.

Police said Hurlbert was cited and released. If convicted, she faces up to 23 years for the two charges.
