LINCOLN–Police have made their first arrest in connection to a shooting earlier this month that left one man dead and another in a medical coma.

20–year–old Xheronte Lewis was cited last Friday for Aid and Abet Robbery, a Class II Felony.

He had already been arrested earlier in the week, on an unrelated warrant.

According to police documents, Lewis told police he went to Coleman’s home—near 19th and Euclid—on April 18th, to purchase marijuana.

He later told police, as he was leaving the home, a man—wearing a black puffy coat and carrying a gun—passed him on the porch and went inside.

It was shortly after that, Lewis says he heard Coleman shout something, followed by gunshots.

Lewis says he immediately ran from the residence and hid in the bushes until the shooting suspect left.

He says he then returned to the home, looked inside from the porch, and saw Coleman lying on the floor with a small child standing next to him.

Police spotted Lewis about 3 blocks from the crime scene, just minutes after being dispatched to it, and arrested him on an unrelated warrant.

In a 2nd interview with police, Lewis admitted he knows who the shooting suspect is.

In the report, some witnesses say he’s even more involved than he’s letting on.

One witness told police they saw Lewis and the man in the puffy coat talking before the shooting, and another witness claims the two men returned to Coleman’s house after the shooting to retrieve an unknown item.

The shooting suspect remains on the loose, and no other arrests have been made.

The police report also revealed new details about the condition of the second victim—Jerry Griffis Jr.—who was reportedly paralyzed by a gunshot wound that passed through his spine.

He is currently in a medically–induced coma.
