Sutherland couple arrested after children treated for possible overdose
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Sutherland couple were arrested Sunday after two children had a possible drug overdose, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office says.
The emergency room at Great Plains Health notified the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office that two children, aged 3 and 6, were being treated for a possible drug overdose.
Deputies went to the hospital and found that both children were in serious distress, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
A grandparent had brought the children to the hospital. The children’s parents were not at the hospital, authorities say.
Later that day, deputies met with 27-year-old Emily Martin, the mother of the two children.
She was arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse and placed in the Lincoln County Detention Center.
Deputies also met with 30-year-old Joshua Holmes, who lived with Martin.
He was also arrested and jailed on suspicion of felony child abuse.
Both children were placed into protective custody, authorities say.
A search warrant was served at Martin’s residence, and an investigation is ongoing.
The Sheriff’s Office said additional charges are likely.
