Lincoln roofing companies see more business amid rash of severe weather
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – With the severe weather and intense wind that’s been plaguing Nebraska this spring, roofing companies are being flooded with calls to repair and inspect roofs.
“We’ve been seeing a really crazy spring, lots and lots of wind,” said Terry Neemann, owner of Neemann and Sons. “Probably the strongest wind that we’ve seen, maybe since I’ve been in business.”
To put that in perspective, Neemann’s been in business since 1981.
He said that the business is averaging 20 to 25 calls for repairs or consultations a day and that within the past three months, it has performed about 1,000 repairs.
Neemann said that with the wind, they’ve been seeing lots of shingles and siding being ripped off or damaged.
He said it’s actually trickier and more time-consuming than replacing the whole roof or siding.
“Shingles blow off, then we have to figure out what color they are, what brand they are, find a match, then go back out and patch them all in,” he said. “So it takes a lot of time to do repairs.”
He also explained that a lot of times, repairs are harder on the consumer, too, because the cost to repair the damage is less than their insurance deductible.
When the roofers go out to assess the damage, they make sure to look for hail damage, as that generally makes the cost higher and would allow for the insurance to take most of the cost.
Neemann recommends that homeowners get their roofs looked at every three years to make sure everything is still secure.
