Local toy store hopes to pick up slack left by Toys R Us

Friday was Toys R Us’ last day before closing its doors.
Many people were left wondering, where can people buy toys in the Lincoln area?
A local start up, called toys from the past, is hoping to pick up the slack.
The owner has lots of family experience.
"My dad was a toy collector. Me and my brother decided that we had a lot of toys and wanted to open up a store," said Mike Bretta, Co-Owner of Toys From the Past.
Toys From the Past is located in the Indian village shopping center off of 13th and high street.
It started off as a vintage toy store, but has since grown to meet the needs of the current generations of kids as well as the past.
"When we heard Toys R Us was closing, our next door neighbor tenant moved out, so we talked to the landlord and we rented the space next door and busted down a wall and expanded. We doubled in size," said Bretta.
The store is open seven days a week and offers a vast collection including star wars, marvel comics, hot wheels, barbie and more.
The store will also buy back any old toys that you may not want any more.
"You’ll see a few familiar things around here. I was out there today when they were closing, and I did manage to purchase all of their bags," said Bretta.
The local store says it is continuing to grow, even adding more Lego and play–mobile toys in the future.
"Just because toys r us closed doesn’t mean we have to stop buying toys. You can buy them with different avenues but i just want Lincoln to know that we still have a toy store here in town and were thriving and were not going anywhere," said Bretta.
The local store is still fairly new.
They’ve only been opened for about 5 years.
So they’re hoping everyone will give them a chance and check them out!
