Haymarket Park hosts LPD/LFR Appreciation Day

Following Sunday’s Saltdogs game, fans got to watch Lincoln Fire and Rescue and Lincoln Police go head to head in a home run derby.

It was all a part of LFR/LPD Appreciation Day!

With the purchase of a game ticket, fans got to stay late and watch some of our first responders swing for the fences.

"It’s a great opportunity for us to get out and have some fun in a different environment that what we are normally used to," said Sgt Rusty Lashley, with the Lincoln Police Department.

Fans got to choose their allegiance by purchasing LFR tickets on the 1st base side of LPD tickets on the 3rd base side.

LFR and LPD members say there is a competitive rivalry between the two workplaces.

"Red vs Blue its always been a long long joking battle between each other. We’re brothers, we love to pick on each other because were siblings and that’s what we do," said LFR’s Cheyenne Jeffers.

The derby was composed of two teams of four people, each person got three minutes to hit as many home runs as they could.

Two participants who really stood out, LFR’s Trent Borcher and LPD’s Max Hubka.

The two advanced to the championship round.

Borcher hit 7 homers in three minutes… But Hubka stole the title in the waning seconds with a walk off homer.

"Working for LPD you get in pressure situations, this was kind of one of those situations. I enjoy those circumstances and I am glad I was able to do well," said Hubka.

The derby was extremely competitive, and a lot of fun for those in the stands.

Police Chief Jeff Bleimeister was in attendance to see his team take home the big win.
