LPD investigating possible connection between Lincoln mother’s murder, reported shooting death of man

UPDATE:

Lincoln Police have ruled the death of Marate Green a homicide. They concluded that Green sustained a single gunshot wound to the pelvis. It is confirmed that he died from the injuries associated with that gunshot wound.

Update:

In a press release Thursday afternoon, LPD gave additional information into the contents of the current investigation.

“Lincoln Police investigators and crime scene technicians have processed the scene at the residence in the 2000 block of South 26th Street following the death of 34-year-old Audrea Craig.

Investigators have interviewed witnesses, analyzed digital and forensic evidence, and suspect the distribution of narcotics may have played a role in this targeted act of violence.

We do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public. Investigators recovered multiple handguns from the scene, including one outside the residence that will be subjected to comparative testing.

This tragedy has impacted many people in the Lincoln community and we ask that you continue to support and respect the privacy of Audrea’s loved ones.

The person responsible for murdering a Lincoln mom is still at large.

LPD is investigating another person’s death to see if there’s any connection.

Just minutes after 34-year-old Audrea Craig was killed at gunpoint inside of her home, police officials say a man was dropped off at Bryan West Hospital, located approximately 5 blocks away.

The man later died, and now the investigation has expanded to find out if the man or the people he was with were involved in Craig’s death.

“Due to the nature of the victim’s injuries, the overlapping timeline of the two incidents, and the close proximity of the incidents’ locations, investigators are working to determine if the victims’ death are connected,” said Chief Jeff Bliemeister, Lincoln Police.

A man with an apparent gunshot wound was dropped off at Bryan West Hospital by unknown people just six minutes after officers were called to Craig’s home on the corner of 26th and south street.

The man, later identified as 26-year-old Martae Green, was unresponsive, and died less than an hour later.

Surveillance footage showed two vehicles at Bryan West dropping Green off.

And those cars have been found.

“We have identified and seized both vehicles that brought Green to the emergency room,” said Bliemeister.

LPD is trying to pinpoint where these cars were in the minutes before Green arrived at Bryan West.

“We still need the public’s assistance, and we are asking anybody with information about either of these incidents, including the identities of those who brought Green into the emergency room, to come forward,” said Bliemeister.

Martae Green’s autopsy is scheduled for Friday, and police officials say the results could provide crucial information into this investigation.

Anyone who knows something about the events of that night to come forward are being asked to come forward.

Authorities said Thursday morning they are still searching for whoever is responsible for shooting death of a Lincoln mother of five, and investigators are now working to determine if the murder was related to another death.

Officers responded to the sound of gunshots that rang out at a home near 26th and South Street just before 4 a.m. Wednesday. 

Officers arrived to find 34-year-old Audrea Craig dead of an apparent gunshot wound to the chest.
