Lincoln Children’s Zoo train ride undergoes renovation

The Lincoln Children’s Zoo is making some updates to their popular train ride.

Many Lincoln families were at the Lincoln children’s zoo on labor day 2018.

The reason? Getting a last ride in on the train before renovations start Tuesday, September 4th.

The $500,000 dollar renovation project will see the train receiving a new engine, wheels, and brakes on each car.

Contractors will also tear out the old railroad tracks with the hope that the new improvements will lead to a gentler turns and a smoother ride overall.

"The trains have been running for 55 years here at the Lincoln children’s zoo. We felt that it was really time to replace all the rails, the ties and the ballasts, get us all brand new grade, and even heavier rail, so when the kids jump back on the train in about ten weeks this will be a smoother, more fun ride here at the Lincoln children’s zoo," said President and CEO John Chapo.

Since today had the last scheduled train rides of the season, many local families came out to enjoy one last thrill ride.

The renovation project should be completed before December, just in time for a winter season themed ride to roll out.

"Coming up in December we will have a north pole express ride. It is going to be a really fun event for kids, they will get to ride to the north pole and see Santa Claus and Mrs Claus and have cookies and have a lot of fun," said Chapo.
