90s return to southeast Nebraska
It was a nice break from the heat on Tuesday. Temperatures topped out in the upper 70s to middle 80s around southeast Nebraska, down 10 to 15 degrees from the previous day.
Don’t get used to it, as heat and humidity will move back into the state later this week.
Clear skies Wednesday night will help produce a comfortable start to Thursday, as temperatures will dip to the upper 50s.
Mainly sunny skies for much of Thursday will allow temperatures to return to the lower to middle 90s during the afternoon.
Humidity will also be on the rise, as dew point temperatures return to the lower and middle 60s.
There is a chance for an isolated shower and/or thunderstorm by midafternoon, mainly for areas east of a line from Lincoln to Beatrice.
There will be another chance for thunderstorms later Thursday night mainly in eastern Nebraska. Thunderstorms could produce large hail and heavy downpours into early Friday.
Thursday’s chance for rain could be the last for many days. Medium and long-range computer models suggest big heat returning to Nebraska from Friday through at least Monday. The air temperature will return to around 100, and the heat index could climb to near 105.
