Cooler temperatures on the way to southeast Nebraska
Heat, heat, and more heat for southeast Nebraska this weekend. Temperatures have topped out in the 90°s and heat indices have reached the lower 100°s. There is more heat on the way, but there is also signs of “cooler” air coming to the state.
The area does not cool off much Sunday night in to Monday morning. Under clear skies, the temperature will only fall to the middle 70°s Monday morning.
Skies become partly cloudy by late morning Monday. There will be a chance for an isolated shower and/or thunderstorm late morning and in to the evening. Temperatures will climb to the upper 90°s to near 100°. Dew point temperatures are projected to be in the middle to upper 60°s which will send the heat index in to the lower 100°s.
RING OF FIRE PATTERN RETURNS
The upper-level “hot dome” that has kept the region very warm and humid begins to move east over the next couple of days.
As the “hot dome” moves east, it will allow for afternoon showers and thunderstorms to develop on almost a daily basis for the upcoming week.
It is what we call a “Ring of Fire” pattern due to thunderstorms developing around the periphery of the “hot dome”. The “hot dome” is high pressure. Air sinks under high pressure, resulting in keeping lifting moisture at bay.
WARMEST FATHER’S DAY
Lincoln reached 94° for Father’s Day. This ties for the warmest Father’s Day in 34 years. The city reached 94° in 2018 and 2016. The warmest was in 1988 when it reached 104°.
