MoPac attack: Lincoln community on high alert

A scary situation on the MoPac trail near 45th and Y street.

Police say an 18–year–old woman was sexually assaulted Saturday night after dark.

The woman reported the man held her at knife point and sexually assaulted her before running off.

Locals are now concerned and on high alert.

"A lot of families and school kids use this trail. I bike a lot, I see women out here jogging. I kind of fear for their safety. I just found out from my wife about this incident last night," said Dave Titterington.

Dave Titterington has been using the MoPac trail for over 30 years.

He says this isn’t the first time something like this has happened.

"There’s been other incidents out here, from people exposing themselves, I don’t what all is going on but it is a place where you need to be aware of your environment," said Titterington.

Cathi Phelps lives on the block where the incident occurred.

She walks her dogs close to nightfall regularly.

"I’m very concerned just because of where we live and now the neighborhood doesn’t seem quite the same as it did before that. I certainly won’t go out tonight. I probably walked within an hour of that and I certainly won’t I will be much more careful," said Phelps.

It was so dark when the attack occurred, the woman was unable to provide a description of the man.

Officials are still investigating the crime.

"Everybody needs to watch out for everybody else out here and if they see something suspicious they need to act on it," said Titterington.

Police are asking everyone who uses the trail to watch out for any suspicious behavior as they continue to look for a suspect.
