Lincoln’s first casino seeks workers of varying skill sets
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Lincoln’s first casino set out to fill its ranks at a job fair structured to fit the needs of the company.
The WarHorse Casino opened the doors of the Cornhusker Marriott on Saturday to the public for both curious and capable job lookers for a chance to be a part of a monumental moment in Nebraska history.
While games of chance like Pull Tab, Powerball and others have been available to the public for some time, this will be the first casino building in the capital city.
The change comes after voters approved a ballot initiative in 2020 allowing casinos and games of chance at horse racetracks.
With opening day closely approaching, Marketing Director Pete Graziano said WarHorse is looking to hire around 200 “excited and personable” people to help get the casino off the ground.
“There is a role for you here, and we just need to help you find what it is,” Graziano said. “We hear from guests in the industry all the time that what makes their casino visits fun and entertaining is the service experience that they have.”
Company representatives spoke with potential candidates for jobs from slots to security, leading them from one room to another in the basement of the Marriott, learning their skill sets and finding the best position for them.
Those who stood out in these interviews had the chance to be offered the job on the spot.
The idea of working at a casino may be daunting for those unfamiliar with the daily routine of a 24/7 casino, but Graziano said there is plenty of training to help prepare new hires.
“There’s job video previews so [candidates] can get an idea of what their day might look like if they were a slot attendant or a surveillance tech,” he said. “So there are a lot of resources for them to learn about work in the casino.”
Graziano said that one of the biggest perks of the job is the benefits that employees will be able to tap into once the casino’s doors are open to the public.
If you missed out on today’s job fair, there is still another one on Tuesday, Sept. 6, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Cornhusker Marriott. You can also go to the casino’s website.
For those who are more interested in spending money at the casino, doors are expected open late next month, with over 400 slot machines to choose from.
