New Lincoln center to provide resources for sex trafficking victims

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) –  On Tuesday, a new center opened its doors to provide support to women who were victims of sex trafficking.

The organization Disrupting Traffick launched its resource center near 17th and N streets on Tuesday.

The center seeks to be a safe space for women and those affected by human trafficking in Lincoln.

Brooke Carlson, the organization’s founder, says this is a dream for her to help out victims in her community.

“We are just here to provide kind of a bridge to resources,” Carlson said. “For those that might be at risk for trafficking or those who have experienced trafficking in our community.”

In Nebraska, about 900 individuals are advertised for sexual hire every month, according to Disrupting Traffick.

Carlson says one in every 250 students at Lincoln high schools is experiencing trafficking.

During the center’s opening, visitors took a look a the spaces designated for victims.

People came to donate hygiene items, clothes, art tools, and more for victims to use.

Disrupting Traffick will post donation drop-off dates on their social media in the near future.
