Cat whose leg was wasting away overcomes the odds in Beatrice
BEATRICE, Neb. (KLKN) — At the end of a chaotic Sunday night, a kitten with a rotting hind leg was brought into the Beatrice Humane Society by a good Samaritan.
The kitten was rushed the next day to Oakview Veterinarian Clinic for further evaluation.
“Unfortunately, he had lost his lower limb, and another unfortunate thing is he had maggots infesting the wound as well, which made for a toxic and serious situation for him,” Dr. Julie Kenoerzer said .
What caused the injury to his hind leg is unclear.
“He could have had an umbilical cord that was wrapped around his leg at birth, he could have gotten some string or twine or something that just caused for the loss of his lower limb, but there is no way of knowing what happened to him,” Kenoerzer said.
Once surgery was completed, the kitten was up and moving around and playing just like a normal cat.
Shelter staff named the kitten Andrew, which in Greek means “strength.”
Andrew is recovering well from surgery and in a short time should be ready for adoption.
