42% of sex trafficking victims recruited by family, according to LPD
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — According to the Lincoln Police Department, human trafficking rarely starts with kidnapping by a stranger.
42% of sex trafficking victims were recruited by a family member, and 39% were recruited by an intimate partner or someone proposing marriage.
Human traffickers will often prey on vulnerabilities, such as a need for love and acceptance, physical insecurity and even financial insecurity.
Traffickers will groom their victims to gain control and manipulate them.
