University of Nebraska Public Policy Center hosts crisis response workshop
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Mental health professionals and law enforcement personnel took part in a workshop focusing on risk assessment of violence towards others.
The goal of the workshop at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln was to increase the confidence of first responders and mental health experts when dealing with risky situations.
The training also shows what signs to look for in someone who is being violent and suffering from mental distress.
Mario Scalora, director of the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center, said that “not every situation is going to result in violence.”
Scalora says, “We learn [in training] about the situations where we need to focus our efforts versus treating every situation like it’s a risky situation.”
