Invasive Strep A infections may be on the rise, CDC says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The CDC says strep a infections may be on the rise among children.

Strep a is a bacteria that can cause fever and throat infections, such as strep throat or scarlet fever.

There’s no vaccine, but antibiotics are usually effective.

Strep a is typically not fatal, but earlier this month, U.K. health officials issued a warning to parents after six children died.

Children younger than 10 are most at risk.

The CDC says the best way to protect yourself is by washing your hands frequently.
