Rep. Fortenberry hosts Lancaster County town hall meeting

Nebraska Republican Representative Jeff Fortenberry arrived in Lancaster County Thursday to host one of his five town hall meetings. Fortenberry has been hosting these meetings throughout his district.

It gives voters a chance to ask him some questions and voice their concerns. About 20 members of the audience were able to directly ask Fortenberry questions. During the meeting Thursday things got a little heated.

One woman, introducing herself as an immigrant, confronted Fortenberry on not responding to President Trump’s controversial tweets.

“I feel you did nothing to stand up against President Trump’s ‘go back to your country’ tweets,” she said.

Another crowd member, demanding a response on tariffs.

“What can you do for the American farmer, what can you do for the farmers of Nebraska, what can you do for me, to get the government regulation out of my business so I can focus on my business,” he asked.

A couple of other hot topics at the meeting included medical care and immigration.

Both critics and supporters of Fortenberry participated in the hour long discussion. The Congressman told Channel 8 that he believes it’s important to have this dialogue with Nebraskans, and he feels the town hall meetings a good ‘back and fourth” conversation, with those who agree and disagree with his policies.

“Its a reality of the time in which we are living, there’s a deep philosophical divide particularly politically. But I refuse to believe Nebraska can’t have a civil discussion which is why we continue to do these town halls even though across the country and in many places they’ve stopped”

Rep. Fortenberry also visited Fremont on Thursday, and will be visiting Norfolk and Columbus on Friday. For more information you can visit his website here.
