City Impact asks for donations as Lincoln kids head back to school

It’s almost that time of year again where kids head back to school for the start of a new year.

With that comes stocking up on school supplies, including a new backpack.

Each year, City Impact in Lincoln hosts a Back to School Night, where kids and parents can come to get prepped for a new year, and pick out a brand new backpack from the City Impact Backpack Drive.

Normally, City Impact has plenty of community and business sponsors to contribute to the drive, but this year, that backing just wasn’t there.

Now, they’re less than a week away from their Back to School Night on August 6, and 150 backpacks short.

For many of the kids they serve, a backpack is something they may not otherwise be able to afford.

“A backpack is a simple thing, but for a lot of the family’s that we serve, it’s an expensive thing, and maybe even a luxury to have a nice backpack that the kids can go back to school with, so we work hard to make that possible for them,” said Lisa Guill, Communications Director for City Impact.

City Impact is now reaching out to the Lincoln community for help.  From now until August 5, you can drop off backpacks to the City Impact headquarters at 1035 N. 33rd St. from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

They ask that the backpacks be brand new, and will provide you with a receipt for your donation.

If you’re unable to make it to City Impact but would still like to help, you can make a monetary donation to the Backpack Drive at https://cityimpact.org/
