UPDATE: Woman may lose hand after firework explosion

Authorities say a woman may lose her hand after she was seriously injured by a firework Saturday night.

The Lancaster County Sheriffs Office along with Southeast Rural responded to 7005 South 75th Street on reports of a firework explosion.

The 39-year-old victim was taken to Bryan West with serious wounds to her hands. Authorities said the woman picked up a firework that she had lit and tried to light it again and it exploded in her hand. A 39-year-old man nearby also suffered leg injuries in the explosion.

Authorities said the victims were celebrating a birthday party at the residence and officials do believe alcohol was involved, and there is no indication the firework was illegal.
