Fire causes $40,000 in damage at Lincoln duplex

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A fire in the basement of a Lincoln duplex on Monday caused $40,000 in damage, officials say.

Around 2 p.m., Lincoln Fire & Rescue crews were sent to a duplex near 18th and A Streets on a report of a fire.

Crews were able to extinguish the flames quickly and kept the fire contained in the basement.

LFR spokeswoman Nancy Crist said Tuesday that the fire caused $30,000 in damage to the structure and another $10,000 to the contents.

No one was injured in the fire, which was caused by an electrical short, according to Crist.

Six residents of the duplex were relocated.
