Investigators say they’re struggling to get witnesses to talk about deadly Gretna crash

The Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office gave an update Tuesday on their investigation into a fiery crash that killed four teens and injured another on June 17.

Authorities have already said speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, but they want to know who gave the teens the liquor.

“The whole goal today is about prevention,” Chief Deputy Greg London said.  “We don’t want to be back here in six months, a year, on another fatality crash involving students.”

They said they’ve interviewed more than 20 people so far, but they’ve hit a major rut: Teenagers and parents aren’t coming forward to give them solid leads.

They’re getting a lot of hearsay instead.

“A third party tells us that ‘oh, you need to speak to this person’ and when you speak to them, their parent’s right there and says ‘well I don’t want my child to answer any questions,” Capt. Kevin Greiger said.

They want first–person information about who provided the alcohol.

They said they’d like to talk to the lone survivor Roan Brandon, but that she has a lawyer now and is not talking.

They said they have two persons of interest in the case, but both are minors and also remain silent.

So they’re asking for others to provide information.  As extra encouragement, Sarpy County Crime Stoppers is raising a cash reward for a solid lead.

“Right now, we have $7,500 pledged for the arrest of whoever provided alcohol to those high school students that night,” London said.

If you would like to donate to that cash reward, get in touch with Sarpy County Crime Stoppers at https://apps.sarpy.com/sheriff/crimestoppers/default.html or by calling (402) 593-2288.
