2-month-old girl’s death under investigation by Lincoln Police
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Police are investigating the death of a 2-month-old girl last month.
On March 28, the mother brought the child, who was unresponsive and not breathing, to a local hospital. She was later pronounced dead.
In an affidavit filed Monday, investigators say the mother had brought the child in after she “turned purple and stopped breathing.”
After an investigation, Lincoln Police Investigator Sara Prewett found that the mom had been in a relationship with a 44-year-old man who is a registered sex offender.
The man is not allowed to be around children unsupervised, according to the affidavit.
Investigators allege that the mother gave “multiple” versions of what happened in her child’s death. She then admitted to police that she had lied about “multiple topics,” the affidavit says.
After interviewing the woman’s four children, police said three of them sounded like they had been coached “because they gave the same story almost word for word while using words they don’t understand.”
The mother later admitted that she had told her children to lie to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, court documents say.
During an interview with the four children on April 6, investigators discovered that they were all present at the time of the 2-month-old’s death.
One of the child’s sisters said the man had been holding the girl, who wouldn’t stop crying.
Court documents allege that the child screamed and “went blank.” She then turned purple and closed her eyes.
After the man set the girl on the bed, the mother yelled at her to wake up, according to the affidavit.
The man’s roommate wanted to call 911, but he wouldn’t let him. Shortly after, he punched a hole in the wall, the affidavit says.
Since then, the mother’s four children have all been placed in the temporary custody of the state.
Channel 8 is not naming the mother and her boyfriend since charges have not yet been filed.
