Grass fire burns 5 acres in northwest Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A grass fire was extinguished in northwest Lincoln on Thursday.

It started behind Sandhills Publishing, near U.S. Highway 34 and Fletcher Avenue, around 5:20 p.m.

High winds caused the fire to swirl and go in “all directions,” according to Lincoln Fire & Rescue Capt. Andy Evans.

There were no hydrants in the area, so LFR had to bring in a water tanker, Evans said.

Raymond Fire & Rescue assisted, bringing in a brush rig.

The fire burned 5 acres of grassland, including a couple of trees, LFR said.

There were no injuries, and no structures were damaged.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation, according to LFR.
