Union College sets out on $13 million building project
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Members of Union College, donors and others signed a beam on Friday that will connect the old fitness and wellness facility to the new one.
The new $13 million fitness center at the university will give students more indoor space to work out and stay active.
Inside, it will have a weight room with machines, a turf field, a full-size basketball court, pool and a walking track.
“Having a really thriving Wellness Center encourages socialization activity, you know,” said Sam Huenegardt, a member of the board of trustees. “So if you have a place to come be active together, you know, maybe students aren’t in their dorm on their phone.”
The fundraising goal is nearly complete. The college is just $1.5 million away from reaching it.
The new facility is expected to be to be completed in the summer of 2024.
