Woman killed in early morning house fire in Kearney

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — One woman is dead after a house fire in west Kearney.

The Kearney Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire near 15th Avenue and 20th Street just after 4 a.m. on Thursday.

Responders found that the fire had been contained to one room of the home.

One woman, 80-year-old Diana Hill, was found outside the home. A family member was giving her CPR.

Hill was taken to CHI Good Samaritan Hospital, where she would later die.

Investigators say the fire was likely caused by a cigarette being lit too close to an oxygen delivery system.

Police do not suspect foul play in the death.
