LPD: Teens stole medical equipment from man who recently had heart surgery

Lincoln Police said officers responding to a call of a vehicle on fire ultimately arrested three teenagers for a number of crimes.

Police said officers responded to the 6500 block of Morrill Avenue around 4 a.m. after a woman reported hearing a loud explosion and that her car was on fire. Officers located evidence of fireworks on the vehicle they believe caused the fire.

Officers found two teens nearby going through a vehicle, and one of them ran before being caught, police said. The teens had fireworks similar to the ones found on the victim’s car, police said. A third teen was eventually arrested as well.

Police said the teens were in possession of $22,000 worth of items stolen from cars, including a portable heart machine that belonged to a 58-year-old man who had recently had heart surgery. The teens were arrested for felony theft and vandalism.
