Malcolm Fire and Rescue host water party for kids

With the summer days in full swing and the temperatures rising, the Malcolm Fire and Rescue department decided to find a creative way to offer a little summertime relief.
“We’re always looking for things to do that involve the community. We have our pancake feed and we do the Fourth of July parade but we tried to do something that more or less involved the kids,” Jared Ritze said.
The department threw a water party for the kids around Malcolm.
Ritze said after seeing a few other departments participating in similar activities, the idea seemed to work perfect for their community.
“We don’t have a lot of things in Malcolm for kids to do besides parks. We don’t have any water features or anything so I think it’s great for everybody to be able to come out and enjoy the water,” Ritze said.
Kids were running through the water, playing games, and even getting to take a turn holding the water hose.
“We’re pumping through the truck on a two and half inch hose on our deck gun and then we also have an inch grass line hooked up for the kids to play with themselves,” Ritze said.
They saw a great turn out to the event and are already looking to the future to hold similar events.
“We definitely are going to look at doing this again including some other things possibly but I hope to do this a number of times this summer, especially with how hot it’s going to be,” Ritze said.
