LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A central Nebraska man was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Thursday for attempted production of child pornography, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

U.S. District Judge John M. Gerrard also sentenced Michael Melgaard to 10 years of post-prison supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

Melgaard, a 54-year-old from Alda, took nude photographs of minors while they were showering, sleeping or changing clothes.

The victims ranged in age from 4 to 11.

Melgaard indicated to authorities that he would keep the images for a time before deleting them.

When authorities searched his electronic devices, they found 14 images of child porn.

Melgaard also must pay $6,000 to funds established for victims of such crimes.
