More opportunities for rain in the coming days

Wednesday turned out to be a hot day across southeast Nebraska, with highs reaching the middle-90s in a couple of spots. The heat and humidity, coupled with an approaching front from the east, was enough to produce scattered showers and storms in the eastern fifth of the state on Wednesday afternoon.

This front will stick around on Wednesday night, and we could see a few more showers into Thursday morning. Again, the best chance for these will be in the eastern section of the state. We’ll otherwise be dry with partly to mostly cloudy skies.

Stormcast Thursday Morning

More scattered storms will be possible throughout Thursday. It will be another day where some will miss out on the rain. However, for those that do see it, rain totals will be locally heavy. The storms appear to be close enough to Lincoln that we can’t rule them out.

Stormcast Thursday Evening

Thursday is shaping up to be another warm day, although it will likely be a touch cooler. We’re forecasting a high near 88° in Lincoln. However, if you are close to a storm, rain-cooled air drop temperatures for a bit.

Thursday Forecast

The exact same pattern will be with us on Friday, giving us another scattered storm chance as well. Then as we head into Saturday, a separate system will arrive from the north. The computer model guidance has been suggesting for several days up to this point that Saturday will give us our next best opportunity for more widespread rainfall.

Precipitation Potential

At this rate, storms look likely on Saturday. By Sunday, things will be trending in a drier direction. While a lingering shower or two can’t 100% be ruled out early Sunday, clouds will generally decrease through the day. This should leave the vast majority of Sunday dry in Lincoln.
