A hot day coming our way Monday

After a great day for all the dads out there, temperatures are going to be trending toward the 90s for quite some time. Very warm temperatures will settle in on Monday, when we could match the hottest temperature of the year so far, or exceed it. The last time we saw high temperatures 98°+ was on September 20th last year, when we broke records with Lincoln recording 103°.

With plenty of sunshine and winds picking up just a bit more out of the south, it shouldn’t be too hard to match what the models are saying. Temperatures will quickly jump to the 90s around lunchtime.

The good news is that there will not be a lot of humidity this time around, so heat indices will only be 1-2° off of the actual temperature. We should be riding dew points in the low 60s, dancing around the level of “comfort.” But simply, it’s going to be a hot one.

With all that sun, the UV Index (UVI) by the afternoon will be climbing back into the “Very High” category, where it does not take long to get sunburnt. Sunscreen, water breaks, shade, hats and sunglasses are all great precautions to take when the weather throws this our way. By Tuesday, the UV Index could be as high as the “Extreme” category by the afternoon, peaking at 11 UVI.

We’re looking toward Wednesday to kick off the next round of precipitation chances. The best shot at rain looks to come by next Saturday, but that’s still a ways out. Storms look to fire in western Nebraska first this next week.
