Wanted woman hid in burning Nebraska home with a 4-year-old child, police say
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A wanted woman is accused of hiding in the closet of a burning home alongside a 4-year-old boy.
The Grand Island Police Department said this happened on Saturday just before 3 p.m.
A man at a house fire near West John and South Eddy Streets originally claimed he was the only one inside, police said.
He then changed his story, according to police, and firefighters ended up finding two women and two children.
One of the women, Jessica Fountain, had a warrant for her arrest in Hall County.
The Grand Island Fire Department said she was hidden under clothes and blankets with one of the children, putting him at risk of serious injury or death.
Police said she denied hearing firefighters’ calls to clear the home and claimed she wasn’t hiding.
Fountain was arrested on her warrant and is also charged with intentional child abuse.
