Several snakes killed in north Lincoln apartment fire, LFR says
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A fire caused $40,000 in damage to a north Lincoln apartment building on Sunday, officials say.
The fire happened around 12:30 p.m. at The Willows Apartments near 20th and Knox Streets.
Lincoln Fire & Rescue spokeswoman MJ Lierman said crews found the fire in a unit on the ground level.
Firefighters put out the flames before they spread to another apartment unit.
Lierman said no one was injured, but 11 snakes died from smoke inhalation.
LFR estimates that the building had $40,000 in damage. There was another $10,000 in damage to the apartment’s contents.
The cause of the fire was deemed to be electrical, Lierman said.
