No injuries reported, but some cattle killed in crash on I-80 west of Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A crash shut down a part of westbound Interstate 80 between Lincoln and Emerald for several hours on Thursday.

The crash happened around 10:45 a.m., west of the Northwest 48th Street exit.

It involved a cattle truck and a semi loaded with boxes of burritos, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.

The burrito truck slowed down for traffic and was rear-ended by the cattle truck, the patrol said.

The cattle truck, which had about 60 head on board, then rolled into the ditch.

“Both drivers were able to walk away from the crash,” patrol spokesman Cody Thomas said.

But the driver of the cattle truck was taken to Bryan Medical Center to be examined.

A “small number” of cattle died in the crash, Thomas said.

Due to the crash, a mile of westbound I-80 was shut down.  Nebraska 511 said the road was reopened around 3:50 p.m.
