Lincoln Children’s Zoo wants your downed trees and branches

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Children’s Zoo would love to have some trees and branches downed by Wednesday’s storm.

The branches must be fresh and still have leaves on them.

The giraffes love snacking on the leaves, said John Chapo, the zoo’s president emeritus.

But there are trees that are not safe for giraffes.

“We can’t take oak, we can’t take maple,” Chapo said. “But things like willow, mulberry, cottonwood are great for the giraffes to enjoy.”

Email the zoo to let them know what kind of trees and how much you have. You can do that via its website.
