Lincoln man taken to hospital after dehydration

A Lincoln man was taken to the hospital after dehydration.
Sandra Sturgeon was able to help her 90–year–old neighbor after she saw him collapse in his backyard after working in the heat all day.
“And I looked out there at 5 o’clock and he had his arm over the fence he was going down and that’s, I called 9-1-1,” Sturgeon said.
Sturgeon said her neighbor had been working in his yard since 11:30 a.m. that morning.
She tried to get him to go inside multiple times to drink water, but he just wouldn’t budge.
“If he would have just been out there a few minutes it would have been fine but he was out there probably oh gosh, 5 or 6 hours,” Sturgeon said.
After Lincoln Fire and Rescue arrived, they immediately started treating the man for dehydration and then took him to the hospital.
LFR wants to warn people of the potential heat hazard in the coming days.
“Well for this, especially for this next week and this summer, you need to stay well hydrated. You need to watch the heat the heat index is pretty high today, 105 I think and we need to limit our time outdoors,” Captain Mark Birdwell said.
Sturgeon and Birdwell made sure wanted to stress the importance of staying hydrated and staying indoors.
