Scammer uses identity protection service to prey on an elderly Nebraska woman

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A 70-year-old from Lancaster County says a scammer turned her identity protection service against her, when he demanded nearly $900 worth of gift cards.
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office tells us this all began on Tuesday. A Raymond woman says she got an email claiming payment was due for her Norton LifeLock account.
She then called a number the email listed and spoke to a man with a Middle Eastern accent. The woman says he instructed her to buy gift cards and give him the numbers.
Once that was over he asked her to cut them up, and that’s when she became suspicious. LSO says the man began threatening her after she mentioned contacting them.
She eventually called the sheriff’s office, and it’s now warning others about the scam.
