Nebraska coach Tony White confirms Blackshirts will return

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The longstanding Blackshirt tradition will return this year, Husker defensive coordinator Tony White said Friday.

Last season, interim head coach Mickey Joseph took away the Blackshirts when he took over.

“Everybody’s going to have a clean slate,” he said.

In October, Joseph said the Blackshirts would not be handed out for the remainder of the season.

Now, White – who spent last year at Syracuse – is learning more about the tradition before he decides how the honor should be handed out.

In his research, White spoke with former Husker standouts, Adam Carriker and Charlie McBride.

“I have an idea, but I’m going to make sure I talked to coach Rhule, and then we’ll do it as we do,” he said.
