Fall-like on Monday; Summer heat lies in wait

Temperatures will be cool on Monday, and windy conditions will prevail. We’ll see sustained winds out of the northwest at 15-30 mph during the afternoon, with some gusts pushing 35 mph. Mother Nature is offering a true taste of fall on Monday.

Wind Gust Potential

Aside from the wind, the weather will be quiet. Most should see a high temperature in the 70s. In fact, temperatures will remain in the 60s for much of the morning.

Monday Forecast

I do expect skies to turn partly, if not mostly cloudy sometime on Monday morning. We’ll see a mixture of clouds and sun in the afternoon.

Stormcast Monday Afternoon

While there may be a few embedded showers in northeast Nebraska early Monday, these will have a difficult time making it to southeast Nebraska. Monday does look dry in the Lincoln area.

LOOKING LONG-TERM

Mother Nature completely ditches the fall-like pattern later this week, allowing summer to return with a vengeance. Temperatures steadily climb through the rest of the workweek, with the most intense heat arriving this weekend.

A strong area of high pressure in the upper atmosphere will be right on top of us, producing a sinking air mass. This air will compress as it descends, producing a “hot dome” and warming high temperatures closer to 100° over the weekend.

Upper Air Pattern - This Weekend

Hydration will be key during this time. It’s not a bad idea to get a head start and drink plenty of fluids to get your body ready for the hotter temperatures.
