Southeast Community College rebranding as the Bobcats
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Southeast Community College has officially changed its mascot from the Storm to the Bobcats as athletics move to all three campuses.
The college made the change on Aug. 1 and announced it this week.
SCC started the process of creating a new logo in September 2022 with the help of Scott Claypool, a vice president at Unanimous, who took the lead on the project.
“This project is personal for me as my son starts on the Milford Campus in August,” Claypool said in a press release. “We approached this project wanting to know what we could do to make SCC unique, stand out and capture the moment. We want every student, every faculty member and the community to be living the brand.”
The college interviewed students, faculty, coaches and community members before landing on the decision. In total, the interviewing process garnered more than 300 mascot ideas.
The Bobcats came out to be the top choice due to them being known for their speed, agility and stealthiness.
Bobcats are also hunters who can adapt and change with their environment, which SCC says reflects the culture at the college.
Three graduates of the SCC graphic design and media arts program helped design the logo.
One of them was Branden Bopp, who wanted to emphasize the exciting things happening at the college.
“Our mindset is to make those close to SCC take notice,” said Bopp. “Let’s generate enormous buzz, and pave the way for the introduction of new, different and better things.”
