LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln gang member will spend eight years in federal prison on gun charges, the U.S. Attorney’s Office says.

U.S. District Judge John M. Gerrard sentenced Duop Kek Yiel on Wednesday for possessing firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking and being part of a conspiracy to commit the same crime.

Yiel, 29, is a member of the Trip Set gang.

From January 2021 to September 2022, he possessed guns that were used in gang shootings.

Some of those weapons were illegal, such as a stolen AK-47 that authorities recovered from a vehicle involved in a shooting. They found Yiel’s fingerprints on it.

Yiel also posted numerous videos of himself with guns and large amounts of marijuana, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

After prison, he will spend eight years on supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
