Wanted man arrested after stealing 60-year-old’s phone, iPad in Grand Island, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man wanted in Alaska was arrested Saturday after a theft in Grand Island, police say.

Around 2:40 a.m., a 60-year-old man reported that Lek Panoan stole his phone and iPad at a home near First and Vine streets.

Shortly after, officers found Panoan, who said he stole the items to upset the victim, according to police.

The phone and iPad were later found in a trash can.  Police said they were both damaged and didn’t work.

Panoan – who had an active arrest warrant in Alaska – was taken into custody, and officers discovered he had a stolen gun.

He was arrested on suspicion of several charges, including possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person and theft by unlawful taking.
