No criminal charges filed in homicide at home southwest of Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – No one will be charged in the death of a man at a Lancaster County home last year, officials said Friday.

In a statement, Lancaster County Attorney Pat Condon said he made the decision after an extensive investigation into 78-year-old Gene Oltman’s death.

On July 11, 2022, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office found Oltman’s body at a home near Southwest 40th and West A streets.

After an autopsy, the sheriff’s office ruled the death a homicide.

Now, over a year later, Condon said there is “probable cause” to arrest a person of interest.

But “due to circumstances outside of law enforcement and the prosecution’s control,” Condon said there will be no criminal charges filed.

After reviewing medical records, investigators found that the person of interest is not mentally competent to stand trial.

“I want to thank the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office for their dedication in completing this extensive investigation,” Condon said in the statement. “My office’s decision has been shared with the Oltman family.”
